Hot Tub Time Machine is excatly what you'd expect from a movie with a title as ridiculous as this; a two hour, hilarious distraction from the real world.
Now the plot isn't life changing by any stretch of the imagination, but if you expected a life changing plot after reading the title, then this movie probably isn't for you. Lou (Rob Corddry) is your average fortysomething party freak, and after a night of partying he finds himself in his garage revving his engine to the beat of a Montely Crue song. The build up of carbon dioxide causes the obvious black out, and an unknown savior calls the ambulance just in time. At this point Lou's friends Adam (John Cusack) and Nick (Craig Robinson) vist Lou at the hospital. Both Adam and Nick are under the impression that Lou had just tried to kill himself. So instead of telling his friends it was all just a big mistake, lou uses this oppertunity to try to reunite his friends who have slowly been leaving him.
The three friends and Adam's nephew, Jacob (Clark Duke), travel to there favorite 80's ski resort. Once there it's apparent that the town and resort have fallen on hard times. Once our characters are in their room the "partying" starts. After several hours (and a failed attempt at trying to get a hooker by Lou) the "party" is then taken out to the hot tub, and I'm sure you know what happens next.
This movie is The Hangover meets Back to the Future in just about every way possible, and it definitely works here. The movie does get a little slow towards the middle, but it picks right back up again. It's filled with 80's pop-culture jokes, and Crispin Glover and Chevy Chase have some entertaining roles.
All-in-all Hot Tub Time Machine is exactly what you'd expect from it and then some. I actually found this to be more enjoyable then The Hangover, but then again I did over indulge (I saw The Hangover six times in theaters!)
I'd give Hot Tub Time Machine a 3 1/2 stars out of 5.
